¿Hay lugar aún para el trabajo de campo etnográfico?

El trabajo de campo entre pueblos indígenas está pasando por profundas transformaciones, tanto en Brasil como en el resto de América latina y en otras partes del mundo. Cada vez más se perciben reacciones negativas a los etnógrafos, cuyo trabajo es visto por los indígenas como una apropiación indebida de los conocimientos nativos para propósitos que les son ajenos. Dada esta nueva realidad, hay que revisar el papel de los etnógrafos tradicionales como una manera de abrirle espacio a las auto-etnografías. Se trata de cambiar la posición del etnógrafo académico de actor principal a actor secundario en la producción etnográfica. Con base en mi experiencia de largo aliento en la Amazonia brasilera, examino los conceptos de compromiso y desprendimiento en el trabajo antropológico en relación con el surgimiento de las auto-etnografías indígenas.
