El presente trabajo trata de algunas de las investigaciones arqueológicas realizadas en el valle del río Sinú, Departamento de Córdoba, Colombia, de Diciembre de 1954 a Abril de 1955, en misión del Instituto Colombiano de Antropología. En años anteriores el autor y su esposa se habían dedicado a investigaciones similares en el Departamento del Magdalena, al Este del río del mismo nombre, describiendo algunas culturas arqueológicas y trazando un esquema tentativo de sus desarrollos temporales y espaciales (Reichel-Dolmatoff, 1954). Desde principios de 1954 se continuó este programa en las regiones al Oeste del río Magdalena, iniciándose las primeras excavaciones en el Departamento de Bolívar, principalmente en la zona costanera de Cartagena (Dussan de Reichel, 1954; Reichel-Dolmatoff, 1955). La estación seca de 1954-1955 fue aprovechada por el autor y su esposa doña Alicia Dussan de Reichel, para ampliar aún el campo de investigaciones tanto en el Golfo de Morrosquillo, como en la región del bajo río Sinú. Tratándose aquí de una zona arqueológica desconocida por completo, las labores efectuadas hasta la fecha no tuvieron un carácter intensivo y por consiguiente no pueden considerarse sus resultados como definitivos; más bien se realizó un reconocimiento general cuyas conclusiones son preliminares y esperan una ampliación y corrección en el futuro.
